Filtering with a certain user list in the People widget’s recommendation tool

My request is for a small addition to the People widget’s recommendation tool.

Right now, the recommender only works with one profile field. To make it more versatile, I would like to be able be able to narrow down the recommendations to only a certain group of users, through limiting to a certain user list.

Through this, I'm hoping to show certain mentors (user list) and recommend based on a multiple choice profile field of needs and skills that the mentors have, which would be beneficial to mentees as part of a mentorship program.
