Allocate widget: option to let users submit answer without using all points

Mika Lillman 15.10.2024 09:15 Edited: 16.10.2024 08:13

EDIT: Wrong widget name, the first point is about Allocate widget.

As the title describes - it would be nice to have an option in the priority widget to let users submit their answers when they have unused points. This would allow using the widget more freely.

The same goes for pulse widget - we have been using it to get feedback, and it would be nice to let users leave some questions unanswered.

Thanks Mika, so your first point is probably about the Allocate widget. Why this is done this way is that we avoid having incomplete answers and a kind of broken data. In Allocate widget we have a point calculator (how many points are left) to help the users to allocate all the resources. Can you explain more about the use case and why you would like these to be changed. One solution in Pulse could be that you split your questions to two separate Pulse widgets. One with mandatory question and an optional poll for the topics that might not be that important.

Whoops! It is about Allocate indeed. I understand your point, which is why this could be an option in the widget that admins could enable if needed.

I'll try to explain our use case;

The participants in our workshops and other events are often grouped around a single device; they take part in our events from Club houses, and not everyone has their own devices etc. We were trying to find a way for all the participants to answer questions regarding their employment status. Allocate would be a good way to do this - people on their own devices could place one point to a relevant "resource" ("looking for employment", for example) and people huddled around one device could place one point each to relevant resources. This of course would only work if all points need not be placed.

Hopefully I was able to explain this comprehensively. I'm aware Howspace is meant to be used and works best if everyone uses their own devices, but that's not case with our users (yet). I'm also aware that our use cases tend to lay in the margins, but one can wish, I guess :)

And that's a goo tip about the pulse widget! We'll look into it. Again, our users may be more sensitive than average when it comes to stating their opinions on certain matters, which is why this demand surfaced in the first place.

Thanks again for taking the time to answer these ideas!

Just out of curiosity Mika. Are your users using mobile phones or some other devices. I am just wondering, that don't everyone has got a mobile phone available?

A mix of both - Club houses usually have conference-room-type setup with a single computer hooked up to it, and the Club house members usually join our sessions in a group using that one computer. The members don't necessarily have their own smart phones, as they come a wide variety of situations.

Then again, people with very low skills and no devices aren't exactly in our target group (or Howspace's, for that matter), but with little tweaks we could include them in our sessions. :)

Note from moderator: I changed the idea title to mention allocate.
