Duplicate a folder

I wish that I could duplicate an entire folder in my workplace. It would be useful tool for our community.

We are planning some technical changes to our duplication logic. I will let the dev team know about this requirement, they might have some ideas on how to do this.

We have had internal discussions about how to implement this feature. Biggest problem is with naming the duplicated pages. Since all the pages inside howspace folder need unique names (URL is created automatically from page name, so page called "Great Workshop" is always located at /great-workshop/ no matter if it is under folder or not.

So when we duplicate folder, then we need to modify all the page names for the new folder. Some of the options we have considered are:

• Just add suffix number after the page name, so when you duplicate a folder that has page "Great Workshop" then the new folder will have page called "Great Workshop 2" which would then be found from /great-workshop-2/
• Use the new folder name as prefix. If your duplicated folder name is "Monday", then the page name would be something like "Monday: Great Workshop"
• Make bigger changes, like adding id:s to urls, so renaming pages wouldn't change their address

How would you expect the page names to behave when duplicating the folder? How have you named those when done this manually?

We need personal folders for each (18-25) member of a group. In each folder there is need for two pages and Page names we create by adding a persons first name to every page.

Here's how we have solved the problem:

We have a template for these groups and there in template we have "excaple folder" and those two Page in this folder. 

When starting a new group, admin adds to every member a new folder and names it by persons name and then duplicates those two pages to those folders and add persons first name to name of the Page (in template one page is "points and degree", so the duplicated page name is Niina's points and degree) 

That made the menu of the Page quite terrible to read or edit for admin but then we learned to move all those personal folders to new folder thet we called My own pages.

And participant have access only to their personal folder. I do not know/see the view they have in their own Howspace (do they see the names of other participants folders) but that is not a security problem because all the members know others names anyway.

I hope you got the idea, system is bit complicated to do and to explain.

Basicly we have used the first option you mentioned but instead of numbers we have used first names.

If they don't have access to any pages on those folders, then they do not see the empty folders at all.

I think the number solution would work pretty nicely for you. If you want to make the names prettier, then you can always change numbers to names afterwards. I'll let you know if and when we move forward with this one.

Ok, thanks. All have access to one of the sub-folders so they propably see only that folder.
